Infertility Cost Alternatives

Infertility cost alternatives can run a wide range of prices, depending upon the nature of the procedures.  The cost of infertility treatments can rise quite dramatically.  The highest percentage of the majority of infertility problems can be conquered through medical or surgical procedures.  A smaller percentage (3%) will have to go into in vitro fertilization treatments.  That’s where you find the most expensive infertility cost alternatives.

The cost of in vitro fertilization can run as high as $16,000.  That is just for a single cycle.  Some patients get as many as three cycles of in vitro fertilization.  So, you are talking infertility cost of as much as $48,000 with no assurance that a pregnancy will result.  That is breaking the bank money, especially since many insurance policies will not cover in vitro fertilization procedures.  The vast majority of couples are paying out of pocket in the hopes to conceive.

The infertility cost doesn’t stop climbing there.  There are other, even more expensive procedures you can get into, such as having the male sperm directly injected into the female egg.  This procedure is even more expensive that those three cycles of in vitro fertilization combined.

Before a couple begins in vitro fertilization procedures, they should talk to their physician about the cost of the procedures that are being recommended.  Many times economic circumstances trump the medical ones.  Often times the infertility cost is too high foe the couple to bear and in vitro fertilization procedures are never begun, or they are discontinued at a point where the couple feels that they can no longer afford to pay the money.

In cases where affordability is of primary concern, the couple must be made aware of the up front costs, for procedures that must take place even before the in vitro fertilization can begin.

Blood tests are necessary for the woman and, generally, sperm tests are done on the man.  The range of initial infertility cost is fifty to two hundred dollars for these tests.

If it is decided that the Fallopian Tubes are blocked, there is a procedure where dye is directed through the Fallopian Tubes under x-ray to determine the blockage.  This test averages $1,000.  The physician may determine the need for laparoscopy, which is a very invasive test running about $5,000.  Another test that might be deemed necessary is hysteroscopy, which will cost around the $5,000 mark as well.

These are large amounts of money, and these are just for tests.  We have already discussed that a single cycle of in vitro fertilization procedures can cost as much as $16,000.  Consider the fact that this amount would be on top of the tests we have just talked about and you can understand why some couples opt out of in vitro fertilization treatments altogether or stopped treatment part of the way through.

There are some practices that will offer discounted rates to patients in order to help them afford the procedures.  Contemplate the fact, however, that you can pay this very high infertility cost and not get pregnant.
